Candidate’s Qualifications (who should apply)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support Center research projects through activities such as:

  • Analyze data and produce manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Data collection through accelerometry, surveys, and interviews.
  • Formal school recess observations.
  • Interacting with stakeholder groups including, but not restricted to, families of schoolchildren, school staff, government officials, non-profit entities, and community leaders.
  • Facilitation of research studies and general data acquisition.
  • Designing and implementing empirical strategies to address secondary and administrative datasets related to nutrition, health, and behavioral development.
  • Developing background on policies and programs that affect diet, exercise, nutritional security, and other pathways to improve weight outcomes or improve management of obesity and obesity-related conditions.
  • Support grant writing efforts. The successful applicant is expected to pursue career development awards for his/her career advancement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, general: A doctoral degree by the position’s start date in a field that enables the successful candidate to contribute expertise in areas such as exercise science, human nutrition, child development, and/or public health.

Special knowledge, abilities and skills: Ability to work in community-engaged research.  The successful candidate should work well with the public and be respectful of diverse cultures.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience, length in years and kind: One or more years of experience interacting with schools and community organizations (elementary and secondary schoolchildren is preferred).

Special knowledge, abilities and skills: Bilingual (Spanish) speaking is a plus.
