Position Description

The Child Health and Physical Activity Laboratory focuses on improving health outcomes for children, housed in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Western University. Under the leadership of Dr. Trish Tucker, research on child and youth health outcomes via exploratory and intervention-based research are undertaken with a specific focus on the early years. The research program and training will be directed by Dr. Trish Tucker Associate Professor, School of Occupational Therapy. Additional mentorship will be provided by Dr. Shauna Burke, Associate Professor, School of Health Studies. We are looking for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate for one year to work on new and ongoing research projects. The post-doc will work on funded research projects related to examining the developmental benefits of 24-hour movement behaviours in preschool-aged children, and the promotion of physical activity in young children and their parents. Strong quantitative analysis skills and experience with longitudinal data analysis are necessary, and an understanding of compositional data analysis is preferred. This role will include participation in various research projects, report writing, research ethics board submissions, preparing and delivering presentations, supervising students, manuscript writing and editing, participating in regular team meetings, and other related activities. Additional emphasis will be placed on leading original analyses and manuscripts, career development, and transition toward independent funding and an independent research career. Working in supportive and collaborative research labs, via professional development opportunities and ongoing mentorship from Drs. Tucker and Burke, the successful candidate will be supported in grant writing and manuscript preparation and submission, as well as knowledge translation activities and stakeholder engagement.

Job Duties

  • Managing a longitudinal study examining the prospective association between 24-hour movement behaviours and temperament in preschool aged children.
  • Engaging in various other research projects related to child and adolescent physical activity, health, and wellbeing.
  • Provide leadership and assist with various research activities including, but not limited to, subject recruitment, obtaining informed consent, scheduling of assessments, data collection, data entry, data filing, data analysis, report writing, and presentation/manuscript preparation and submission.
  • Assist with financial and human resource processes.
  • Maintain communications with all researchers and research staff as required.
  • Organize meetings and prepare/deliver relevant presentations and materials.
  • Provide leadership and assist in preparing grant proposals, manuscripts, and submitting required documents to Research Ethics Board (REB) and regulatory authorities.
  • Supervise and provide training to other personnel (research assistants/ students/volunteers) on study procedures and assessments as required.

  • PhD in Health Promotion, Human Kinetics, Kinesiology, Population Health,

Preferred Qualifications

  • An established track record of original, first-author, publications is strongly desired.
  • Candidates should demonstrate established quantitative research skills, experience in analysis of data, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and with collaborators.
