Position Description

Tenure Track or Tenured Faculty Positions University of Massachusetts Boston The Department of Exercise and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for three tenure track/tenured positions as Assistant or Associate Professor, to begin September 1, 2014. The department is one of the fastest growing on campus, and a newly established Master’s program began in Fall 2013 and a PhD program will be launched as early as Fall 2014. The current undergraduate program offers a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in Health Sciences, Exercise Science, and Fitness Instruction and Management. Our interdisciplinary faculty are active researchers and have been funded by various agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Their broad expertise ranges from the cellular level (molecular mechanisms) to the society at large (community and population studies), with many collaborative research efforts focused on physical activity; diet; and obesity in children and youth, adults, and special populations across the lifespan. See www.umb.edu/academics/cnhs/exercise_and_health_sciences for more information.Candidates ideally should have research and teaching expertise in areas related to exercise physiology, nutrition, behavioral science, or statistics/quantitative methods. Candidates will be expected to develop or continue to conduct an independent extramurally funded research program to achieve national and international recognition. Specific are as of interest that are complementary to our current faculty’s expertise include energy and muscle metabolism, physical activity and/or nutrition assessment, community based research, and health disparities research. Candidates will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses; supervise and mentor students; and provide service to the department, college, and university. Candidates at the rank of Associate Professor are also expected to mentor junior faculty.

Candidate’s Qualifications (who should apply)

Minimum Qualifications:
1) earned doctorate in exercise science, kinesiology, nutrition, public health, statistics, behavioral science, or related areas post doctoral experience is highly preferred
2) publication record in peer reviewed journals;
3) success or promise in obtaining extramural funding; and
4) university level teaching experience. Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor must have a proven record of research productivity as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and a history of external research funding.
