Position Description

Transylvania University, a selective, independent, residential, liberal arts college of 1,150 students, invites applications for a three – year term position as Assistant Professor of Exercise Science, beginning September 2014.
The position may be converted to tenure track at the end of the term.
Responsibilities include teaching courses in public health, health promotion, and epidemiology, a required general education wellness course, upper level exercise science electives, and, on a rotating basis, in the first – year seminar; engaging in scholarly activity, with the potential for collaborating with undergraduates; serving on university – wide committees. All faculty serve as academic advisers. The college has an excellent faculty development program that competitively funds student and faculty research with separate research space available. Bingham Program for Excellence in Teaching may provide start – up awards for recent Ph.D.s or substantial salary supplements after tenure.

Candidate’s Qualifications (who should apply)

Doctorate in public health or related discipline, with emphasis on physical activity and/or chronic disease, required by start date. Also required: expertise in teaching public health/health promotion/epidemiology courses, with specific emphasis on physical activity; demonstrated ability to produce scholarly work through publication and/or presentation; commitment to undergraduate education; desire to engage undergraduates in faculty – student coll aborative research; commitment to liberal arts education.
