Current focus areas include: (1) the etiology of child and adolescent health and health-related behaviors including substance use, diet, smoking, and, physical activity; (2) etiology and prevention of motor vehicle crash risk among novice young drivers; (3) influence of neurobehavioral, social, and environmental factors on eating behaviors and diet-related health outcomes during pregnancy and early childhood; and (4) developmental risk factors for mental health problems and their outcomes including suicide. Branch scientists are internationally recognized as leaders in these areas and are recruiting fellows with interests overlapping with the mission of the Branch. Postdoctoral fellows collaborate with senior scientists and develop their own initiatives within ongoing research in the Branch.
