Candidate’s Qualifications (who should apply)
The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching. The newly founded Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition & Health on the University of Bayreuth’s Kulmbach Campus is currently seeking to appoint a Junior Professor of Public Health Nutrition at pay grade W 1 with a tenure track option to W 3. This is a fixed-term civil service position.
The applicant should cover the field of public health with a focus on nutrition (and physical activity), taking into account humanities and social science influences in research and teaching. Research interests should focus on individual and societal risk and protection factors, such as lifestyle, social status and life context, as well as health promotion and prevention of epidemiologically relevant diseases, in particular nutritional diseases. The transfer of basic and health care research into social practice and the organization of the health care system are taken into consideration.
Expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods is expected, as are active contributions to the development of the new Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition & Health. This also includes the conception and establishment of new, interdisciplinary B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes such as the M.Sc. “Global Food, Nutrition and Health”. The aim is to recruit an academic who can contribute to the interlinking of the faculty’s individual disciplines thanks to his or her research orientation and who participates in inter- and transdisciplinary research projects.
Other possible points of contact at the university include the focus area Food & Health Sciences or departments such as Sport Science, Health Care Management, and African Studies.
The ability to teach in English is required as a large number of the faculty’s courses will be offered in English. International applicants must be ready and willing to teach in German within three years.
The requirements for hiring professors at universities in the State of Bavaria apply. The appointment will initially be for a period of three years as a fixed-term civil servant. In the course of the third year, the junior professorship will be extended by up to three additional years with the consent of the junior professor if he or she has proven successful as a university lecturer.
