Position Description

Kansas State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Head of the Department of Food, Nutrition, Dietetics and Health, in the College of Health and Human Sciences. We seek a visionary leader who will provide collaborative leadership to a department that includes a diverse set of academic programs (Nutritional Sciences, Dietetics, Athletic Training, Sensory and Consumer Sciences, Public Health Nutrition, two undergraduate certificate programs and a minor in Nutrition) and personnel who work with K-State Research and Extension. The department head will provide leadership for planning and implementing the department’s vision and mission to support the strategic goals of the College of Health and Human Sciences and K-State for academic excellence and prominence. The position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences.

Candidate’s Qualifications (who should apply)

Minimum Requirements: Recognized record of excellence in research, teaching, and professional service commensurate with the rank of tenured professor or associate professor Evidence of a cooperative and accountable administrative style Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills Successful experience in fiscal management and coordination of human resources, academic, and service programs Earned doctoral degree in a discipline represented within the department, or a closely related field Preferred Qualifications: Previous leadership experience in academic administrative capacity, as a director, program chair, unit coordinator, or department head Familiarity with Responsibility Centered Management (RCM) model of budgeting Demonstrated commitment to involvement with national, state, and local/regional service, professional, and scientific communities Experience with land-grant colleges or universities or appreciation for the mission Knowledge of professional accreditation processes Appointable at level of full professor
