Position Description

The Department of Nutrition in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track position, commensurate with experience. The Department is recognized as a global leader in nutrition research and training. The breadth of our department’s research spans from cell to society and moves from discovery to intervention delivery and dissemination.

We are seeking applicants who will build an independent research program and participate in collaborative research that aligns with existing strengths in the department. We are especially interested in someone with expertise in nutritional epidemiology, particularly as it relates to areas of growing need, such as global nutrition; food and nutrition equity; food systems and policy; climate and the environment; novel approaches to the assessment of diet, nutritional status, and physical activity; biologic, behavioral, and/or social applications to precision nutrition; and data science. These are areas of research that are critical for the advancement of nutritional science and public health. Other responsibilities include teaching, research mentoring to undergraduate and graduate students, and participation in university and professional service. Ideal candidates will have postdoctoral or faculty-level experience and a track record that supports the potential to establish a visible, impactful, and extramurally- funded research program.

Candidate’s Qualifications (who should apply)

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

A PhD or equivalent in nutrition, epidemiology, or relevant discipline is required.

 

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Experience employing strategies to ensure access to resources and promote student success in a public university setting where students are diverse with respect to social background, economic resources, racial and ethnic identities, religious affiliations, and gender and sexual identification and preference. In addition, experience working in a setting where students may need learning accommodations related to physical abilities (e.g., mobility, sensory) or neurodivergence.
