Abstract

The transition from adolescence to young adulthood is characterised by significant life changes, increasing independence, and associated weight gain. Recruiting, engaging, and retaining young people in behavioural modification programs represents a key challenge for weight gain prevention. A person-centered design approach has the potential to overcome this challenge by placing the user, their needs, and desires at the centre of the design process. There are many different methods, tools, and techniques that can be used to empower participants in a person-centered design process. This ISBNPA webinar hosted by the young adults SIG will provide attendees with an opportunity to hear from five speakers (Dr. Taylor Willmott, Professor Linda Brennan, Dr. Tracy McCaffrey, Dr. Stephanie Partridge, and Dr. Anne Martin) with interdisciplinary expertise in applying person-centered design methods with young people to design behavioural programs in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and health-related behaviour change more broadly. Each speaker will share insights from their applied work designing programs with (and not for) young people before participating in a semi-structured panel discussion. The hour-long session will be moderated by the young adults SIG Chair (Dr. Melinda Hutchesson) and Co-Chair (Dr. Eleanor Winpenny).
