Abstract

The WHO defines equity as “the absence of unfair, avoidable or remediable differences among groups of people, [defined as] socially, economically, demographically, or geographically or by other dimensions of inequality”. Related to this, some populations may experience a different burden of disease and require different treatments or policies to meet their health needs. Yet, traditional evidence syntheses (e.g., systematic reviews and meta-analyses) underlying health guidelines and policy frequently are unable to identify differential needs for different populations. Instead, factors related to equity are frequently not considered in evidence syntheses. This webinar will introduce equity and related topics for consideration in the (co)production of evidence syntheses leading to guidelines and policy incorporating health equity considerations. Specifically, speakers will provide an overview for the following topics: (1) the PROGRESS-Plus guidance (https://methods.cochrane.org/equity/projects/evidence-equity/progress-plus); (2) individual participant data analysis to examine different subgroups/populations; and (3) consumer involvement in evidence synthesis.

This webinar will introduce equity and related topics for consideration in the (co)production of evidence syntheses with speakers from several Cochrane Methods Groups (Campbell and Cochrane Equity Methods Group, Prospective Meta-Analysis Methods Group).
