Abstract

This is the first of our NESI webinar series aiming to introduce and present the work of early career researchers. This one hour webinar will focus on the topic of ‘Lessons on promoting physical activity and healthy behaviours in children and adolescents’. It will consist of three presentations, two by early career researchers and one by an established researcher. There will be an opportunity for discussion and to ask the speakers questions. This webinar also aims to help early career researchers interact with their peers and establish new connections across the world.

Speakers and topics are:

Dr. Esther van Sluijs

Esther leads the Behavioural Epidemiology and Interventions in Young People programme in the MRC Epidemiology Unit. Esther has been lead and co-investigator on various observational and experimental research projects focussed on young people’s physical activity behaviour. Currently, Esther is involved in various projects focussed on assessing personal, socio-cultural and environmental determinants of physical activity behaviour, as well as intervention trials to promote physical activity and systematic reviews of the literature.

Esther will present “Promoting physical activity in adolescents: Exploring results from the GoActive study.”

Dr. Manou Anselma

Manou obtained her PhD in 2020. Her PhD project ‘Kids in Action’ was on a participatory action research in close collaboration with children to improve their energy balance-related behaviors. Currently her research is more focused on diversity and inclusion in academia and sports, through her work at the Amsterdam UMC and Mulier Institute.

Manou will present “Developing actions together with children to promote healthy behaviors”.

Pablo Campos-Garzón

Pablo Campos-Garzón is from Spain. Currently, he is doing his second year of his PhD focusing on active commuting to school in the University of Granada. He is also interested in the use of devices such as GPS and accelerometers.

Pablo will present “Cycling to school to increase adolescents’ physical activity levels: The PACO study”.

Our NESI webinars are hosted in collaboration with the student and ECR committees of UK Society of Behavioural Medicine and the International Society of Physical Activity and Health”

If you are unable to attend, please note that the webinar will be available through a YouTube video on ISBNPA’s website.
