1 File Organization
The Excel workbook is organized by Special Interest Groups (SIGs), with each SIG having its own dedicated tab. Only abstracts submitted by authors who indicated their intention to compete for one of the ISBNPA Awards are included in this file.
2 Award Categories
You will be selecting abstracts across three award categories:
- Student Award
- Early Career Award
- Overall Award
3 Selection Requirements
3.1 Number of Abstracts to Select
- 3 abstracts per category (one for each award category listed above)
- 1 selection + 2 backups per category = 3 abstracts total per category
- Total abstracts to rank: 9 abstracts (3 categories — 3 rankings per category)
3.2 Ranking Process
For each award category, you will rank abstracts in order of preference:
| Ranking | Designation | Action |
| 1st Selection | Your top choice | Write 1 in the yellow column |
| 2nd Selection | Your second choice (1st backup) | Write 2 in the yellow column |
| 3rd Selection | Your third choice (2nd backup) | Write 3 in the yellow column |
4 Step-by-Step Instructions
4.1 Step 1: Locate Your SIG Tab
Open the Excel workbook and navigate to the tab corresponding to your SIG.
4.2 Step 2: Review Available Abstracts
You will see abstracts from authors who opted to compete for the ISBNPA Awards. Each line includes information about the authors and 4 columns with Purpose | Methods | Results | Conclusion | representing the abstract content. We know that it is not the best to read the abstracts, so we are sorry about this. If you click twice in the cell you should be able to read all the cell content.
Each abstract includes a review rubric that was used during the peer-review process.
4.3 Step 3: Use the Rubric as a Reference
The review rubric is provided to assist your selection process. Please note: You are NOT required to score the rubrics. Use them as a reference tool to inform your decisions about abstract quality and fit for the awards.
4.4 Step 4: Select for Student Award Category
- Identify the yellow column designated for the Student Award category
- Review abstracts to find your top 3 selections for the student award
- Rank them by writing:
- 1 for your first selection
- 2 for your second selection (1st backup)
- 3 for your third selection (2nd backup)
4.5 Step 5: Select for Early Career Award Category
- Identify the yellow column designated for the Early Career Award category
- Repeat the ranking process (1, 2, 3) for this category
4.6 Step 6: Select for Overall Award Category
- Identify the yellow column designated for the Overall Award category
- Repeat the ranking process (1, 2, 3) for this category
4.7 Step 7: Verify Your Selections
Before submission, confirm that:
- All three categories have been ranked (1, 2, 3 in each)
- Numbers are placed in the correct yellow columns
- Each category has exactly one 1st selection, one 2nd selection, and one 3rd selection
4.8 Step 8: Send one email to António, to inform that you have completed the task
5 Why We Request Three Rankings Per Category
Purpose of Backup Rankings:
- Your 1st selection is the abstract we hope to feature in the awards session
- Your 2nd and 3rd selections serve as backup options in case your 1st choice recipient declines the invitation to present
- This ensures we can fill the awards session with high-quality presentations from your SIG
Final Awards Session Selection: Only one abstract per SIG per category will ultimately present in the awards session (the one ranked as 1), but having backup options ensures the integrity of the program.
