Rationale
To provide higher visibility to the oral presentation awards.
To provide a more efficient and transparent process for the evaluation process.
To allow for decision-making as soon as possible in the conference, facilitating the dissemination of the results during the conference, instead of at its end.
Set-up
All nominees for the award will be presenting on Wednesday afternoon: the Awards Sessions!
Each SIG has short-listed:
- 3 orals
All presentations will be evaluated by a judge composed of SIG representatives and Awards committee representatives, with at least 4 judges.

Procedures
1 Chairs
The awards committee will designate one chair for each session. See the list of judges at the end of this note.
2 Judges
Each session is expected to have 4-5 judges.
The SIGs will assign 2 judges to their sessions. These judges will evaluate the presentations from their SIG and the other SIG occurring in the same room.
See the judge list at the end of this note.
3 What is expected from each judge
- Read the abstracts in advance (do not fill out the form yet, only at or after the sessions, but you can take some notes in advance)
- Attend and evaluate the oral awards sessions.
- Bring a laptop or your phone to complete the online form
- Use the Awards Evaluation Form; we suggest you fill out the forms as you attend the presentations.
- All evaluations of the oral awards sessions must be received by Wednesday night.
4 Evaluation form
We will provide each judge access to an online evaluation form, to collect all the scores. The form was sent to all the judges on 2025-05-24.
- Select the Award session you are judging
- Select the title of the presentation (I hope all are there, if not write the name in the next question)
- Then score the presentation in the following criteria
Scientific Content: score from 0 to 100
Focus primarily on the substance of the research—its rationale, methods, results, conclusions, limitations, and innovation.
Scientific Content (45%)
Presentation Quality: score from 0 to 100
The organization, readability, and visual appeal of the presentation are important for ensuring the research is accessible and understandable, but should not outweigh the science itself.
Presentation Quality (30%)
Communication Skills: score from 0 to 100
The presenter’s ability to engage, answer questions, and manage time is valuable, but is weighted slightly less to ensure awards reflect research excellence first and foremost.
Communication Skills (25%)
Comments
Please add any comments, but note that we may have limited time to use this information during the analysis. You can write here any problem you have experienced with the form also.
5 Data analysis
Antonio and the leaders of the Awards Committee will average all the data to find out about:
- The best oral presentation
- The best Student/Early Career oral presentation
Based on these results each SIG will also have:
- The best SIG XXXX oral presentation
6 Dissemination of the results
The overall awards will be disseminated just before the Friday keynote.
If there are specific awards for the SIGs (e.g. best SIG presentation, best poster) they will be made public via our website or newsletter.
