Senior Research Fellow – Healthy Ageing

Deakin University recently re-designated the Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research (CPAN) as a research institute, the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN).  IPAN is a multidisciplinary research institute spanning biomedical, clinical and population health research with world class expertise in both nutrition and physical activity. IPAN’s vision is to improve the health and quality of life of Australians through nutrition and physical activity research excellence.

The Senior Research Fellow – Healthy Ageing will conduct research into the role of physical activity, exercise or nutrition in healthy ageing (e.g. chronic disease, musculoskeletal, functional, or cognitive health).  Examples of current project areas include: understanding physical activity and nutrition behaviours, and their determinants in older adults; observational studies and randomised controlled trials to examine the role of nutrition and exercise in the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes, prostate cancer, cognitive decline/dementia, Parkinson’s disease, osteoporosis, falls and sarcopenia. Within IPAN there is also a strong emphasis on the translation of research-to-practice and the use of mobile health technology to improve health outcomes in older adults and those living with chronic disease.
