Position Description
Available from 1 September 2014 for 24 months, the post will entail working as part of a larger multi-disciplinary research team and responsibility for conducting a Discrete Choice Experiment and behavioural economic field experiment as part of a cluster randomised controlled trial investigating the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a novel physical activity loyalty scheme to maintain behaviour change.

Major duties include:

1. Be responsible for the management and conduct of a Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) to investigate the possible optimal levels of incentives for public health behaviour change interventions, including developing protocols, recruitment, execution of study protocol, data collection, data entry and data management and analysis.
2. Be responsible for the management and conduct of a behavioural field experiment on inter-temporal preferences to investigate the relationship between behaviour change, discounting and incentives, including developing protocols, recruitment, execution of study protocol, data collection, data entry and data management and analysis
Candidate’s Qualifications (who should apply)
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
1. A primary degree in an economics, finance, statistics or related subject.
2. Have or be about to obtain a relevant PhD in an economics, environmental economics, finance, statistics or related subject.
3. At least 3 years’ recent research experience and skills relevant to this project e.g. behavioural economics research, discrete choice experiments, conducting economic experiments.
4. Sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in research methods and techniques pertinent to discrete choice experiments, experimental economics and behavioural economics research.
5. Experience of using data analysis packages such as STATA, SAS, NLOGIT, NGene.
6. Experience of project management.
7. Excellent IT skills e.g. Microsoft Office suite.
8. Excellent organisational skills.
9. Excellent inter-personal skills.
10. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
11. Evidence of ability to write reports and meet deadlines.
12. Evidence of ability to deal competently with administrative tasks.
13. Clear and confident communicator.
14. Ability to give formal presentations.
15. Ability to work independently and on own initiative.
16. Access to transport and willingness to travel to meet the needs of the post.
17. Ability to work outside normal hours when necessary.
