The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Postdoctoral Scholar, Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences, School of Integrated Health Sciences [R0131874]

ROLE of the POSITION

The post-doctoral experience will emphasize behavioral nutrition and/or physical activity research in clinical, community, digital, or public health settings. Candidates will gain insight into international cutting-edge research in behavioral nutrition and physical activity, develop skills related to peer review, editorial management, and build a social network with an international cadre of scientists in the field. In addition, candidates will collaborate on data collection, analysis, manuscript drafting, grant writing, professional presentations, and the mentoring and instruction of both undergraduate and graduate students. Research will take place in diverse clinical and community-based populations. This position is housed in the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences at UNLV, with potential to collaborate with faculty members in School of Integrated Health Sciences, School of Public Health, School of Medicine, and School of Dental Medicine.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Richard Rosenkranz, PhD, MA, MS, FACSM, Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity. The candidate will also be welcomed into a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and academic instructors within and beyond the School of Integrated Health Sciences. This post-doctoral experience will build skills in rigorous methodology and study design, grant/manuscript writing, oral presentations, and research development with community stakeholders in a diverse urban population.

Responsibilities and Duties
 

  • Under supervision of Editor-in-Chief, serve as editorial manager of the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (IJBNPA, an open-access journal with an impact factor of 8.925)
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of research in settings-based nutrition/physical activity interventions
  • Conduct literature reviews, extract data, and use reference managers
  • Collect and analyze quantitative data using various software
  • Supervise and mentor research assistants and other graduate students
  • Publish peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts
  • Assist with writing and submitting grant proposals
  • Prepare and present abstracts and papers at national scientific meetings
  • Attend weekly research meetings
