Abstract:

Together, We Inspire Smart Eating (WISE) is a research-supported intervention for nutrition promotion in childcare settings with four key evidence-based practices (EBPs). These EBPs are role modelling, hands-on exposure to target foods, use of the program mascot, and positive feeding practices.  In this webinar, A/Prof Taren Swindle will present (a) results of a formative evaluation focused on identifying the barriers and facilitators to use of WISE EBPs, (b) methods to engage stakeholders in prioritizing barriers and facilitators and selecting a package of implementation strategies to address priorities, and (c) process evaluation results from the ongoing implementation trial comparing stakeholder-selected implementation strategies to a basic implementation approach (i.e., education and reminders only).

Dr Serene Yoong will then present learnings from a program of work targeted at improving the implementation of menu guidelines in early childhood and education care centres, to increase availability of healthier foods. In this webinar, Dr Yoong will present: (a) barriers and enablers to implementing menu guidelines in care from a systematic review and quantitative survey undertaken with service supervisors; (b) findings from a three-armed trial examining strategies to improve dietary guideline implementation; and (c) the design of an online intervention to scale up implementation support.
