Lifestyles that include adequate physical activity and a healthy diet have been shown to reduce health risks associated with many of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide, including coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, cancer, arthritis, depression, and cognitive impairment. As such, there is a need for research that advances our understanding of the effects of diet and physical activity on these health problems and effective approaches to promote active and nutritious lifestyles.
The Mission of the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA) is to stimulate, promote and advocate for innovative research and policy in the area of nutrition and physical activity behaviors toward the betterment of human health worldwide.
Established in 2002, ISBNPA has grown in membership and stature. Its membership includes leading scientists from 44 countries covering every continent.
Scholarly criteria indicate that publications in the Society’s journal, the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, are widely cited and the journal has become one of the leading journals in its field (Impact Factor 2020, 6.457).
ISBNPA conducts an annual scientific conference and manages its open-access professional journal, both of which are dedicated to the dissemination of the highest quality scientific research on behavioral issues in nutrition and physical activity.
Consistent with its mission, ISNBPA has a number of programs to foster the development of students and scholars early in their career or from low-income countries. These programs include reduced membership fees, reduced conference registration fees, student and early career awards for scholarly works, professional development workshops, and scholarships to support participation in the annual scientific conference. In addition to workshops, scientific presentations, and opportunities for students to interact with experts in their fields, the annual scientific conference exposes students and scholars early in their career to leading scientists by way of keynote addresses and debates on the major research and policy issues in the area of behavioral nutrition, physical activity and international health. In order to continue and expand these efforts, we are asking you to support or sponsor:
- Keynote speakers at the ISBNPA annual scientific conference;
- Memberships for scientists in under-represented and low-income countries;
- Scholarships for attendance by students and scientists from under-represented and low-income countries;
- Publication fees of articles authored by students and scientists from under-represented and low-income countries;
- Dissemination of the latest research on behavioral issues in nutrition and physical activity through the society newsletter and website.
